On November 6th, Professor Bayisa Leta, President of Ambo University in Ethiopia, and Dr. Niguse Bekele, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (who is an alumnus of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering in 2019), paid a visit to the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (SESE HUST). Mr. Jing Han, Deputy Director of the International Exchange Office of the university, Ms. Liu Lijian, Party Secretary of SESE HUST, Prof. Xinhua Xu, Deputy Dean of SESE HUST, along with representatives of the academic staff of the school, extended a warm welcome to the visiting guests. This visit was designed to enhance the cooperation and academic exchanges between the two universities and foster the common development in the fields of sustainable development science, environmental science and technology.
During the ensuing meeting, both parties engaged in profound exchanges and discussions. Deputy Director Jing Han initiated the session by presenting the cooperation accomplishments of HUST with globally prestigious universities over recent years. Emphasis was placed on the vibrant progress in areas such as international student exchanges and international academic conferences. Additionally, the remarkable outcomes attained by the university in advancing the internationalization drive were also showcased.
In his address, President Prof. Bayisa Leta delved into the long-established history and educational tenets of Ambo University and shared the bountiful achievements in international exchanges in the recent past. Notably, he underlined that Ambo University has been unwaveringly dedicated to fostering international academic cooperation and cultural exchanges and articulated a fervent aspiration to forge a long-term collaborative partnership with HUST.
Deputy Dean Prof. Xinhua Xu apprised the attendees of the research orientations and major achievements of SESE HUST. He expounded on the vigorous endeavors of the school in spurring innovations in environmental science and technology. He pointed out that the School of Environmental Science and Engineering has registered breakthroughs in numerous domains and has cultivated close cooperative ties with a multitude of world-renowned universities, continuously scoring new achievements, particularly in the realm of international exchanges and cooperation.
During the subsequent exchange segment, Dean Dr. Niguse Bekele reminisced about his studying journey at Huazhong University of Science and Technology and presented his research accomplishments within the domain of environmental science. He accentuated that environmental science holds crucial significance for global sustainable development and voiced his aspiration to engage in more profound cooperation with SESE HUST regarding scientific research partnerships and academic interchanges. Prof. Hongjuan Wu lavished high praise on Dean Dr. Bekele's research achievements and concisely introduced the research orientations and attainments of SESES in the field of environmental science.
Subsequent to listening to the presentations from both sides, the two parties delved into an in-depth discussion regarding the prospects of future cooperation, with particular focus on the cooperation potential in areas such as student exchanges, academic conferences, and joint research projects. Both sides reached a unanimous consensus that by enhancing the exchange of international students, jointly hosting academic conferences, and jointly undertaking research projects, the academic exchanges and cooperation between the two universities could be further advanced, and they could jointly make contributions to the global development and progress of environmental science and technology.
