On August 10, 2024, the International Academic Symposium on Low-Carbon and Sustainable Building Technology, hosted by the School of Environmental Science and Engineering of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, was successfully held in Symposium Room 317 of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering of our university.

The symposium was presided over by Associate Professor Zhu Na from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering. Vice Dean Wu Xiaohui of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering attended the opening ceremony and delivered a welcome speech. The symposium specially invited Academician Xudong Zhao from the Centre for Sustainable Energy Technologies at the University of Hull in the UK, and he gave a special report on "Latest Research and Innovation Initiatives at CSET". In the morning of the symposium, Professor Xu Xinhua from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering gave an academic report on "Energy Saving Potential Estimation of Radiative Sky Cooling Integrated with Pipe-embedded Wall System". Professor Zhao Fuyun from the School of Power and Mechanical Engineering of Wuhan University gave an academic report on "Low Carbon-built Environment: from Microelectronic Cooling to Macro Solar Energy Harvest". Associate Professor Li Guannan, director of the Institute of HVAC and New Energy, School of Urban Construction, Wuhan University of Science and Technology, gave an academic report on "Refrigeration and Air-conditioning System Fault Diagnosis, Model Interpretation, Feature Learning Based on Deep Convolutional Neural Network". Associate Professor Luo Yongqiang from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering of Huazhong University of Science and Technology gave an academic report on "Study on the Modelling and Optimization of Medium-deep Ground Source Heat Pump System".
In the afternoon of the symposium, Associate Professor Hua Zhong from the School of the Built Environment and Architecture, London South Bank University gave an academic report on "A Vision for Sustainability in the Built Environment". Associate Professor Shen Wei from the Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources, University College London gave an academic report on "Occupant Behavior - A key Aspect in Building Performance?". Senior Researcher Jing Li from the School of Energy and Environment, University of Hull gave an academic report on "Supercritical Cycle-driven Carnot Battery for Electricity Storage and District Heating". Researcher Haowen Liu from the Department of Building Services Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University shared the research progress on "Photovoltaics Application in Low-carbon Buildings". Postdoctoral Yunhai Li from the School of Energy and Environment, University of Hull shared the latest situation on "High Performance Heat Pump used in UK". Senior Researcher Xiaoli Ma from the School of Energy and Environment, University of Hull shared the research progress on "Thermal Storage Materials Integrated into Photovoltaics cells". Zishang Zhu from Kingston University shared the research status of "Carbon Neutral Calculation Method in UK". Teachers and postgraduates from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering and the School of Energy and Power of our university, and some teachers and postgraduates from the University of Hull, London South Bank University and other universities participated in the symposium. More than 50 people participated in the symposium online and offline.
This international academic symposium aims to gather wisdom on low-carbon buildings, discuss cutting-edge technologies, and share development achievements. At the same time, it is expected to build an efficient communication platform so that participants can fully communicate, share experiences, expand cooperation, and jointly address the global carbon neutrality challenge.

During the symposium, scientific researchers from China and the UK conducted in-depth sharing and discussions online and offline on frontier hot topics such as solar energy utilization, new material energy storage, urban microclimate, and intelligent control of air conditioning systems. The atmosphere at the symposium site was lively. Through this symposium, it effectively promoted the participation of teachers and students of our college in international cooperation and exchanges and broadened the academic horizons of young talents.
